$3 MILLION VERDICT RETURNED IN DEATH
OF HOLIDAY RESIDENT

Tampa, FL. (January, 2005) – A Pasco County jury returned a verdict on Thursday for $3 million in the wrongful death of Mark Seyer, a 35 year old graphic sign artist who was electrocuted when he contacted an electrified guide wire installed and maintained by the Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative, Inc. Mr. Seyer, who worked for Allied Graphics, was repairing a sign for the Seven Oaks subdivision located in Wesley Chapel. Upon completion of the repair, Mr. Seyer brushed against an uninsulated guy wire that supported a utility pole. The wire should not have been electrified and had too much slack according to the lawsuit. After two days of testimony before Judge W. Lowell Bray in the Pasco County Circuit Court in New Port Richey, a 3-man/3-woman jury deliberated two hours before returning the damages verdict. Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative had admitted that their negligence resulted in Mark Seyer’s death, and the remaining issue before the jury was the parents’ damages for mental pain and suffering for the loss of their son.
